Hello there... Have you heard of Partitioning of Hard disk but don't seem to under it? Do you seek for answers for this? Well in this tutorial am going to be explaining what partitioning of hard disk actually means, it's benefits and also how to partition a Hard disk.
WHAT IS HARD DISK PARTITIONING?
Partitioning of Hard disk simply means dividing your PC Hard disk into Parts/Partitions/Volumes having different sizes so as to store data separately on the different partitions of the Hard disk but on the same Hard disk.
From the image above, you would notice that my Hard disk has been partitioned. It contains 2 partitions which contains separate files. Each partition can be formatted separately without either of them affecting the other.
WHY PARTITION YOUR HARD DISK?
Below are some reasons why it is important to partition your hard disk.
- It is used for dual booting of Operating System. Dual Boot means making use of more than one Operating System on a particular PC. In order to be able to dual boot an Operating System from your hard disk, you need to have separate partitions for each hard disk.
- It helps in the storage of data.
- One partition can serve as backup for the other.
But bear in mind that partitioning of hard disk doesn't damage your hard disk in any way. The only downside to partitioning of hard disk is the fact that it reduces the size of the original hard disk partition.
